Strict and lenient
Strict, the default, lets an edit through only if the file is in a declared intent. To touch another file the agent declares again, and the new intent adds to the first. Lenient records and reports but stops nothing.
gatebolt init # strict gatebolt init --enforce lenient # lenient
- Stopped edits are shown in your workspace, on the branch’s page. They are kept beside the record, not in it.
- The gate holds for files declared by path. A glob or a folder lets through everything it covers.
- Git-ignored files, and files outside the repository, pass without being declared.
Strict is not a sandbox. It guards the agent’s editing tools. A file rewritten from the shell is not stopped, but CI still reports it.
